![]() ![]() So it made sense that he was extra sensitive and all. Because comparing all Jin Yong protagonist, Wu Ji was probably the kindest of them all, except for possibly Xu Zhu (because of his monk background). I saw some criticism regarding how Wu Ji was crying too much or seemed weak. Anyway, as Wu Ji, Joseph brought out the character quite well and made it his own in this adaptation. It wasn’t like Wu Ji didn’t have his mischievous moments, but there was an obvious constrast to that of Tang San Shi Liu. So, I didn’t know what to expect–or if he could portray such a calm and toned down character. Yet I started watching him first in Fighter of Destiny and his role was extremely lively and bordering on obnoxiousness (initially until things got intense later on). Not saying that I didn’t have faith in him. Joseph Zeng (曾舜晞) as Zhang Wu Ji ( 張無忌).Enough gloom and doom from me, right? LOL! Let’s get right into it. In some ways, it was more realistic, but in other ways, it just made you want to scream because of the amount of frustration going on during the last fifteen or so episodes. Except, I sort of wanted to see how it all turned out so I stuck around. ![]() But the general low-energy feeling also made me want to give up on it as well. But what dragged this version down to the point of frustration was that it seemed like the scriptwriters gave up and eventually just wanted to end the series. So, yes, I learned to analyze it from different perspectives instead of just blindly following the original source like previously. Sometimes, it leaned more toward one side or another because of how the production team wanted to approach the story. That actually made a lot of sense because of how the stories and perspectives got changed and somewhat modernized over the years. I read somewhere once (and had forgotten where actually so can’t name the source) that each adaptation represented that generation (aka what they could relate to, etc). This is the umpteenth adaptation already, so they had to put some kind of twist into it to attract viewers. I loved every part leading up to where all the major characters finally appeared. So, how was it? It was disappointing, to say the least. But the majority remained about the same. I had to change some comments after having cooled down a bit. The thing was, I wrote some notes down while watching and after watching yet never returned to finish it up and post the review. It was like I updated once and never went back. Xiao Zhao was actually prettier than both in this movie. There was hardly any awkwardness/shyness on Zhang Wuji's part to show he was smitten or attracted.įinally, and this is just a personal opinion, both Zhao Min and Zhou Zhiruo in this movie are simply not beautiful enough. The worst part is there was absolutely NO CHEMISTRY between Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min in this movie !!! One of the best ways to judge the quality of each version of this adaptation is the chemistry between these 2 key characters. Dragon Sabre and Yitian Sword were supposed to break when they clashed yet nothing happened. Yet adult Zhang Wuji was never shown in possession of the Dragon Sabre when he returned from Ice Fire Island. In the final fight, Zhang Wuji held the Dragon Sabre to fend off Ah Dog with Yitian Sword.Zhang Wuji, a 15 year-old orphan, steered a sail boat all by himself to return to Ice Fire Island to reunite with Xie Xun.Zhang Sanfeng possessed the Jiuyang manual all along and purposely let Zhang Wuji steal it.Miejue killed her and took Zhou Zhiruo into Emei Sect. Ji Xiaofu became Zhou Zhiruo's mother.A lot of deviation from original novel, some of which border on ridiculousnes. ![]()
